About Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra
The Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1964 to give
amateur musicians the opportunity to play a symphonic repertoire
to a high standard. It has a history
of over 40 years of performing and currently presents three or four
concerts each season, in November, March and May - normally in the
historic Greyfriars Kirk.
Programmes often include works outwith the standard repertoire and the Orchestra is committed to supporting local composers. Over the years, opportunities have been given to young soloists early in their international careers.
Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings in the Reid Memorial Church
Membership, subject to requirements is open to all amateur players of Grade 7 standard or higher.
